Nothing irritates more than Linksys adapter and router fails to connect. And it gets more difficult to understand the issue and thus coming up with the solution when frustrated.
When Linksys Adapters and Routers become adamant-
Being one of the top brands, Linksys routers have some issues with their software and the user will undoubtedly face the problem at least once during their usage.
When the user faces the "cannot access with the access point' error message', no matter how hard they try, their router and adapter fails to connect.
What is the process to fix it?
Let's follow the steps explained below on how to fix Linksys Adapter/Router Connection issue:
ROUTER SETTINGS
Installing it on one PC and adapter on 2nd PC: Below are the quick steps to fix the problem and get your connections working.
a. Installing the router on first PC- Instead don't install the Linksys software. Save the drivers to a new folder on desktop through the Linksys support page (the user can utilize the drivers subsumed on the CD which the user gets with the router; also the user can use it from the Linksys website which is updated). If the user fails to connect, then refer to the instruction booklet.
b. Install the adapter driver on 2nd PC- Now, the user will have to install their adapter on second system which will receive the signal from the router. As mentioned in the instruction manual, install the card but not the Linksys software. Rather copy the drivers on desktop. Ensure that the user is using the right driver version for that specific card. The user can find the adapter version on a label on the card itself.
Now, reboot the computer system after installing the card. When Windows find the hardware, just follow the process from step 1 of driver installation process. Select 'Install drivers manually' and 'Have disk', and place it to the driver folder on desktop, which will install the software.
ADAPTER SETTINGS
Getting signal/connections to the adapter- After completing the half battle, now the user has to configure the signal issue on their 2nd PC, i.e. adapter card.
1. Finding router signal on wireless network list- Click on 'Network connections' icon available on the lower right hand side of screen. The screen will show all the wireless signals available in the area, also the one being sent by the user's router.
In case if the user is unable to locate 'Network connections' option, then go to Start> Settings> Control Panel> Network.
If there is able to find their router's signal on their list, then click on it. If not, then there might be some problem with its setup.
2. Connecting with WEP Key 1 to the signal- It is an auto generated key which the router has translated after they used a password and clicked 'Generated'.
Just remember Key 1, as this is where you will go back to PC with the help of it and select the 'wireless' tab and then 'Wireless security' tab. Now locate 'key 1' and note it down as it is a string of 26 letters and numbers.
Now, type twice Key 1in the dialog box appeared on computer with the adapter. The second time will be for confirmation. Select OK and the system will connect to the router.
